Twitter Rocks! But…
By wahms | June 26, 2008
I’ve got to tell you - now that I finally understand Twitter (I admit, I was a little slow to catch on), I absolutely love it! It keeps me up-to-date with what’s going on with people in my industry, friends, and just what’s new in areas that interest me. It is great for team work, too. I am taking part in this year’s 30-day Challenge, and Twitter has beed a Godsend to keep me up to date with what’s going on in #30dc as well as with me Thirty Day Challenge teammates.
My only complaint with Twitter is not even with the Twitter system itself. It is more with the Twitter users.
People NEED to learn to either a) explain what the heck they are talking about, or b) Use the Direct Response function!
I am seeing more and more people tweet things like: “Hey Bob - Got your email. Thanks” or “This is cool - www.SomeObscureURL.com” This gets really irritating because it is meaningless drivel that is not meant for everyone’s view.
In those examples, the “Hey Bob - Got your email. Thanks” needs to be a Direct Response to “Bob.” That way only Bob gets it and no one else is annoyed. To do a direct response, type d username then your message.
In the second example, sharing a cool site on Twitter is great! But I would really appreciate a little more detail. Like “Cool new site on Niche Marketing methods! www.NicheSupremacy.com or something. That way, if I’m interested in Niche Marketing, I’m gonna check it out, if I’m not into that then I won’t waste my time.
All in all, I think Twitter is awesome. There is a little bit of a learning curve for the users and a few bugs for the Twitter folks to work out, but I think it’s going to become a great service. I actually check my Twitter more often that my email!
